The sticky bit on /tmp in Linux

LinuxPermissions & Ownershipsticky bitadvanced

What this snippet does

The trailing t means only a file's owner can delete it, even in a world-writable directory.

Expected output

drwxrwxrwt root /tmp
drwxrwxrwt root /var/tmp

Why practise typing this

Typing permissions & ownership code builds muscle memory for the symbols and indentation Linux uses most, which prose-based typing tests never cover. DevType measures your words per minute and accuracy on this snippet and tracks the individual characters you mistype, so later lessons can target them.
