Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information DevType ("we", "us") collects when you use the app, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using DevType you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

• Account information. When you register, we store your display name, email address, and a securely hashed password (we never store your password in plain text). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile image from Google.
• Practice data. When you complete a typing test while signed in, we store the result — words per minute, accuracy, language, duration, error count, and the time of the test.
• Per-character statistics. To power adaptive lessons, we store aggregated counts of how often you attempt and mistype individual characters. We do not store the actual text you type.
• Preferences. Your theme, sound, caret, and highlight settings are stored locally in your browser, not on our servers.

Guest use

You can practice without an account. In guest mode, your results are shown to you at the end of a test but are not saved to our servers.

How we use your information

• To provide the service and let you sign in.
• To show your statistics, history, and progress over time.
• To recommend lessons that target the characters you most often mistype.
• To maintain the security and reliability of the service.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Third-party services

We rely on a small number of service providers to operate DevType:

• Authentication: Google (only if you choose to sign in with Google).
• Database & hosting: our database and hosting providers store your data on our behalf.
• Content delivery: fonts and language icons are loaded from public CDNs, which may receive your IP address as part of serving those files.

Cookies

We use a single essential cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. See our Cookie Policy for details.

Data retention

We keep your account and practice data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, we delete the associated data, including your test history and per-character statistics.

Your rights

You can access your data through your dashboard, and you may request that we correct or delete your account and associated data at any time by contacting us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA.

Children

DevType is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above.
