Execute bit on directories in Linux

LinuxPermissions & OwnershipPermissionsintermediate

What this snippet does

On a directory the execute bit means traverse, so removing it blocks access to everything inside.

Expected output

ls: cannot access '/srv/app': Permission denied

Why practise typing this

Typing permissions & ownership code builds muscle memory for the symbols and indentation Linux uses most, which prose-based typing tests never cover. DevType measures your words per minute and accuracy on this snippet and tracks the individual characters you mistype, so later lessons can target them.
