TypeScript

Mismatching inferred type variables in TypeScript

TypeScriptGenericsMultiple Type Variablesintermediate

What this snippet does

When multiple parameters share the same type variable, TypeScript infers a union type or errors based on strictness.

Expected output

Compile Error: Argument of type 'string' is not assignable to parameter of type 'number'.

Why practise typing this

Typing generics code builds muscle memory for the symbols and indentation TypeScript uses most, which prose-based typing tests never cover. DevType measures your words per minute and accuracy on this snippet and tracks the individual characters you mistype, so later lessons can target them.
